Kansas City, Denver, Colorado Springs Recap & Round Two.

Monday, March 7th, 2011

We are so very thrilled about how our tour has taken off in the last 4 days.  In a short time we have clocked in over 1800 miles and counting.  Kansas City, Denver, and Colorado Springs were all solid hits for us and the people were so welcoming.

Hi Kansas

In Kansas we performed at RecordBar with Latenight Callers.  The lead singer sang through a megaphone which gave a unique and cool effect to their dancing, bossa nova vibe.  We were completely spoiled by the phenomenal sound guy.  The cello seemed to explode on stage and our vocals went on for miles.  Musicians, you must play at RecordBar!

Lost In Review‘s came out to the show and said:

“[The Loneliest Monk] not only tell a fairy tale story with their songs, their stage set up is made for a feast of the eyes. They paint a beautiful picture with their instruments and words mixed with an allure of mystery and sexual appeal on stage.” Check out the full review here!

Miles at Ralph's Warehouse in Denver

Smooth Denver

The next stop was Denver.  Oh how I love thee.  The Meadowlark’s entrance takes you down to a catacomb of sorts.  It’s intimate vibe helped us feel cozy on a cold Friday night.  Our highlight of the evening was connecting again with Glenn Ross, an Illinois native and super talented photographer in Denver who took photos of us on our last visit.  He brought out his old polaroid camera and snapped shots of us in the exterior of The Meadowlark.  I can’t wait to see how they turn out!

Heart of Gold Colorado Springs

Who would have guessed that the best hummus is located in Colorado Springs? We took in schwarma and falafel before our our evening at Modbo Gallery.  The Gallery is actually two brick buildings and you enter through an alley.  The small buildings are situated next to each other and it was like trying to figure out which child you like better.  Both buildings are filled with fantastic paintings.  They have an amazing community at Modbo.  The room was packed and Constellations of Cars opened the night. A wonderful evening indeed!

We have met and reconnected with some amazing people so far.  Much love and thanks to everyone! Catch up with us and Mitchell via Twitter and postings on Narwhal’s website.

So now Round two begins with 5 shows approaching.  This includes performances in Sebastopol, Oakland, San Diego, and Los Angeles.  Round two also starts our celebration of Mitch’s Birthday week!  Look out California!

TOUR! SOON!

Friday, January 28th, 2011

Planning a tour is one of the craziest and most enduring tasks of being a musician.  Especially heading West, where the roads are much greater from city to major city.

We will be announcing our dates very soon!  This will be a longer tour this time around, with extra days here and there for us to get a small vacation out of it/sight-see, eat food, and enjoy lots of candy…

Plus, The greatest Mitchell of all, Mitchell Cepaitis will be joining us again, your bestest friend that you haven’t met yet.  Our 4th team member and most awesome dude, Blake, is pending right now. If it all works out this will be another one for the record books.

March 3, 2011. It begins.

We are heading West.

Presenting Our Music Video! Share and Score a Free Download Now.

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

At last the day is here! We present to you our DEBUT music video, “ The Ghost & The Silhouette,” written and directed by RUBBISH and produced by HYSTK.  We are so very proud to share it with you.

The video depicts a young girl as she gets coursed into following The Loneliest Monk into a dark and mysterious land. The shoot spanned two 18 hour days with some extra filming in between during our Chicago Summer. Locations took place near the incredible Arts District in Pilsen as well as our second home, EP Theater. Everyone who had a hand in the video poured their heart and determination into it for us.  We are so thankful for the people and the experience.

Our Music Video is already creating a buzz with less than a week into it’s release.

“The visuals fall well in line with the string and drum performers’ live show. Grandiose and impressive and maybe just a pinch of proto-punk..”
- VEOBA

Dive into the video at http://wearetheloneliestmonk.com/video, and as an extra bonus you will receive a download of the song for FREE by sharing it via Twitter or becoming a ‘fan’ on Facebook.

If you have a YouTube account please leave a comment and let us know what you think!

Happy Holidays.

Live Theater. The Loneliest Monk Composes Score for BAAL.

Monday, August 24th, 2009

Welcome to the World of The Monk!

Our latest endeavor marks a path down the theater realm. We will be creating a live original score for BAAL: debuting at the EP Theater for ten nights only from Mid-September-October. Manipulating the sound of the cello and percussive effects, The Loneliest Monk will support this spectacular event by performing live for every performance.

Bertold Brecht’s revolutionary first play is a brutal tour de force of sex, gluttony and unapologetic poetry. The young poet, Baal (Craig Cunningham), alongside friend and young composer, Ekart (Shawn Pfautsch), wreaks havoc in this urban underworld in search of the next couplet, bar fight, woman, or glass of corn brandy to give him a sense of purpose. He consumes everything with his insatiable appetite only to have this world collide with jealousy in the midst of corpses of lovers and friends.

This new production of Brecht’s masterful debut will not only feature The Loneliest Monk, but will display yet another amazing set and costume design by Threadcount’s Christopher Provyn and David Beaupre (Cirque du Soleil, Redmoon, Lookingglass). A splendid time is guaranteed for all.

Check out our schedule for the show dates.

Magic buttons

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

Friends!

We have some very exciting news to tell you. First things first, we will be performing this Friday night at the Bottom Lounge in Chicago and will have some new and very special buttons with us. The buttons were designed by the talented Aaron Albarran, and will reveal our new logo. Now here’s the deal. Come to the Bottom Lounge and pick up the unreleased button (for free), then wear that button on December 21st to the Empty Bottle and claim your handmade The Loneliest Monk Christmas gift! We promise it’s a gift worthy of the cold trek.

December 21st will be our first headlining show, and at none other than Chicago’s gem, The Empty Bottle! From the Bottle’s website: “We pay homage to the closest sounding instrument to the human voice as we present a night of cellos.” Opening will be Chicago locals, Thin Hymns and Les Ourses (pronounced “lay-zoors”) from Saint Paul, Minnesota. Each band tickling your eardrums with one of the most beautiful instruments ever crafted, the cello. Not only will this be the show of shows to end the year, but you’ll get in for the seasonal cover of only three dollars! We’ve been told there will also be some tasty drink specials.

OK, let’s recap. Come to the Bottom Lounge this Friday night, grab one of the new buttons, come to the Empty Bottle on 12/21 and unwrap your very own The Loneliest Monk xmas gift.
